Hardness testing. Identer shape characterization A review and comparison of different techniques for indenter shape characterization have been carried out. A novel approach to indenter apex characterization has been proposed based on a direct imaging of a very sharp tip by the indenter in a semi-contact scanning probe microscopy mode. The analysis of the factors affecting the indenter shape characterization and the efficiency of obtaining the resulting indenter area function is given.

Gas chemical nanosensors based on carbon nanotubes The chemical nanoscale sensors are developed at the interface of material science and analytic instrumentation. A significant amount of information about development of such devices and variety of approaches to their construction has already been accumulated. In particular, the sensitive elements of nanosensors are made of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), polymers, metals, their oxides and other compositions. The article presents the systematization of chemical gas sensors based on CNTs, evaluation of the possibilities and principles of their use.

Surplus clusters. Сontrol of the properties of the multilayered protective-decorative coatings Protective-decorative paint and varnish coatings (PVC) are applied in a number of branches. Their basis is made of liquid or high-plastic polymers - film-forming materials with components added for strengthening of the coatings. The subject of the article is control of the structural properties of PVC after introduction of nanodispersed components forming the surplus clusters.

It is considered various forms of training of engineers including involvement of students in technical creative activity within of the Centers of Young People’s Technical Creative Work.
