Effective Vacuum Systems for Science and Industry
The Edwards Group is the world’s vacuum equipment market leader. In various industries the Edwards vacuum systems are used to produce clean environments, remove gas/liquid
from material, achieve pressure difference,
provide thermal and/or electronic insulation
and perform other tasks.

Nanotechnology in Smartphones: Bühler Inside
Hardly anyone would associate Bühler –
renowned as supplier for the food processing industry – with smartphone components.
However, the company has a hand in many technologies used to create a smartphone: from the grinding and dispersing processes to vacuum depositing and also die casting.

Observation of the Tobacco Mosaic Virus in the Laboratory Course of Scanning Probe Microscopy
Successful development of the technologies was often followed the path of imitation of natural objects and processes, which called biomimicry. Undoubtedly, the biomimicry has a great potential also in the nanotechnology. The viruses are ones of the simplest (in terms of structure) natural objects, whose dimensions are in the nanometer range.

Innovative Technical Research Centres As a State-of-the-Art Engineering Product
On 12–13 March St. Petersburg hosted
the III Interregional Conference "Industrial Engineering and Prospects for Attracting Leading Russian Research and Technology Centres to Develop High-Tech Industries in the Regions". One of the highlights of the conference was the opening of the Lithium-Ion Technology Laboratory in the Ioffe Physical-Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Modification of Polypropylene by a Complex of Nanoparticles
Research of the optical and adhesive characteristics
of the composites based on nanomodified functionalized polypropylene demonstrates
that introduction of a complex of carbon and silicate nanopowders into a matrix polymer results
in a change of the transparency, higher adhesiveness to metal surfaces, and lower wettability

Nanodiamond Powders with High Magnetic Characteristics
The article presents the results of the work aimed to obtain nanodiamond powders with improved magnetic properties. It was demonstrated that an efficient way to enhance the magnetic characteristics of the nanodiamonds is modification of their surface with a ferromagnetic powder of ferric oxide.

Combustion of Aluminum Nanopowder
Research of combustion of the aluminum nanopowder in the air allowed to determine the character
of the process of burning, the speed of a density variation of the thermal flows and to analyze
the end products of burning.
