Metrology systems for semiconductor industry
The French company Corial was established in 2004 by a team of professionals, who had at that time 20 years of experience developing solutions for thin films etching and deposition in Nextral, Alcatel, Balzers and Unaxis companies. Corial’s headquarters and manufacturing plant are located in Grenoble district – in the heart of the French semiconductor industry. The company develops and manufactures equipment for plasma etching and plasma enhanced deposition, which is used in the manufacture of microelectronics, photonics, photovoltaics, MEMS etc. The interview with Andrei Uvarov (on the left in the photo), R&D project manager, is devoted to innovations of Corial.

Thin-film technologies and plasma systems from Japan
E + H Metrology GmbH (Karlsruhe, Germany) traces its history back to 1968, when Wilfried Eichhorn and Thaddaeus Hausmann have founded the Eichhorn + Hausmann OHG, which was engaged in development linear capacitive distance sensors for machinery. In 1978, the company introduced its first measurement system for the semiconductor industry. In 2008, E + H Metrology has got the modern brand name. Currently, about 80% of the company's turnover is generated from metrology solutions for the semiconductor industry and related industries. Peter Michel, Metrology Manager at E + H Metrology, told us about metrology tools.

Thin-film technologies and plasma systems from Japan
In 1979, in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan, a small laboratory was established to develop the equipment for chemical vapor deposition (CVD) for semiconductor industry. This laboratory was the first facility of SAMCO International, an innovative developer of plasma solutions. Over the years the company has grown, expanded its product portfolio, opened representative offices, service divisions and centers of research and development in Asia (China, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam), North America (USA) and Europe (Liechtenstein), changed its name to SAMCO Inc. and had an IPO on the Tokyo stock exchange. Currently, SAMCO employs about 170 people, and the sales of the company exceed 5.3 billion Japanese yen. In 2014, SAMCO’s stock listing was transferred to the first section of the Tokyo stock exchange, where the shares of the companies with the largest capitalization are traded. Mr. Tsukasa Kawabe (on the right in the photo), Director, Member of the Board, Executive Vice President (Global Business) at SAMCO Inc., told us about solutions for the semiconductor industry.

Creation of tube shells of fuel elements using composite materials based on silicon carbide
The nuclear accident in Fukushima in 2011 showed special danger of steam-zirconium reaction that occurs when the temperature of the fuel element shell rise due to loss of coolant. In this regard, the programs on the development of new materials for fuel elements, which are resistant to accidents of this kind and able to significantly improve the safety of nuclear reactors, are of particular relevance.

Physical methods for detection of viruses and bacteria, using tools of scanning probe microscopy
Biological scanning probe microscopy in thirty years has successfully developed from observation of biomacromolecules and biological micro-objects to the study of nature with high spatial and temporal resolution. This area of bionanoscopy makes steps in the field of medical diagnostics, development of new drugs, creation of biomedical products and tools. Advanced Technologies Center contributes to the development of new areas of biomedical probe microscopy.

Issues of patenting
D.Sokolov
Early patenting of inventions
Conducting research, development and other work for the creation of new technology, it is necessary to decide at what point to start the patenting of inventions. As it was already noted, preparation of patent applications for high-tech solutions that are created without or with budgetary financing, should begin immediately with the start of development, before the plan will be implemented. Otherwise, at the stage of creating final product, when project costs often reach many millions of rubles, it can turn out that the product is already patented by someone.
