Edwards Group presents in the global vacuum equipment market a wide range of high-vacuum pumps and backing vacuum pumps, sub-atmospheric equipment and evacuation units. Number of vacuum pumps Edwards its parameters considerably exceed similar products of other companies. Among them STP magnetically levitated turbomolecular pumps and GXS dry screw pumps.

More than 90 years of experience in the vacuum equipment market, high quality of products and a range of know-how enable Edwards to be a vacuum technology leader. It is no coincidence that more than 150,000 dry vacuum pumps produced by the British company are operated worldwide.
GXS dry screw pumps
By focusing on the types of vacuum equipment most popular in the industry, the company has developed a dry mechanical screw pump which implements a gas pumping method with a patented rotor design. This type of equipment is represented by the GXS product line including 10 models with a range of pumping speeds from 44 to 958 l/s at ultimate vacuum 5•10-4 mbar (table 1). GXS can be effectively used in the solar energy (silicon crystal growing and Lithium Ion battery manufacture), coating, freeze drying, pharmaceuticals, optical industry, metallurgy, leak detection, food packaging and high purity gas cylinder filling.
GXS pumps are characterised by best-in-class performance in a wide range of pressures. High reliability even in the harshest industrial environments, long intervals between servicing (up to 5 years) and savings on operating costs provide advanced bearing technology, automatic on-board thermal management, proven shaft sealing systems, long-life lubrication, intelligent control and water cooling for motors and the electronics systems.
An integrated intelligent control system allows you to configure the automatic start and stop, self-cleaning using solvents and/or purges thus ensuring operation of the pump in optimal conditions. The control loop adjusts the pressure by changing the pumping speed. The system’s intellectuality makes it possible to save significant funds for external control devices.
Another advantage of GXS is its exceptionally smooth and quiet operation with noise levels below 64 dB or up to 12 dB quieter than counterparts. The pump is compact due to its make as a single unit and is ready to operate. Installation costs are reduced through the use of integrated control systems and communication protocols allowing to work without any external control equipment. The "plug and pump" principle is implemented in practice.
Depending on the current tasks, the pump can be equipped with accessories that ensure optimal operation of the vacuum system. Those are accessories fitted at the inlet and outlet of the pump – filters, traps, valves, silencers - and the control and monitoring system - the engine control module, interface unit, module remote control via Profibus, the cooling water flow sensor, the purge gas flow switch and various measurement instruments.
A new series of ES rotary vane pumps
A new series of Edwards single-stage rotary vane pumps are represented by the models from ES65 to ES630. ES pumps provide high ultimate vacuum and an extended range of operating pressures. They provide a stable residual pressure, are easy to operate, have increased service intervals, can be used alone or with a booster. The integrated gas ballast device allows you to work at a high water vapour concentration. Due to the simple pump design, customers can perform service activities and maintenance on their own.
ES may be used in the thermal treatment of metals (annealing, tempering and moulding), for coating, drying in a transformer, refrigerator and automobile industries, in the food industry, for vacuum processing of insulated glazing units as well as sterilisation.
Innovative STP turbomolecular pump
STP magnetically levitated turbomolecular pumps are designed for dry high vacuum pumping of steam-gas mixtures. The pumps of this type are equipped with the rotor position retention and speed control systems and a temperature sensor. In addition, you can use the thermal stabilization system to improve the pumping performances. An important advantage of STP turbomolecular pumps is the absolute absence of any mechanical contact between moving parts of the machine thus providing an exceptional reliability of bearing units and the absence of any body vibrations.
New this year is a high turbomolecular pump STP-iXA4506C (table 2) replacing the well-proven model STP iXR4506C. The new pump delivers the pumping speed of 4,000 l/s (nitrogen). The advanced rotor design reduces power consumption by 20%.
STP-iXA4506C is the best solution in cases where high pumping speed is required, the space simulation, etching in the semiconductor production, LCD production and coating. An integrated controller and a source of power supply ensure the connection of the pump and the compact design facilitates the installation and minimises space requirements. A thermostabilizing system is also available.
For the standard versions of the pump the ports RS232C, RS485 and STP-Link are used for remote control; you can optionally connect via the Profibus, DeviceNet, and LonWorks interfaces. Pump complies with UL, CE, SEMI-S2 and the RoHS Directive. ■
